Tiercon is an automotive supplier committed to the manufacture of quality exterior and interior trim and bumper systems used as original equipment in the automotive markets. Headquartered in Stoney Creek, the plants have moulding, painting and assembly capability, employing approximately 650 people throughout 5 Canadian facilities, and 1 US facility. Tiercon is seeking a knowledgeable, self directed, experienced and hard working individual interested in the automotive industry as a Lab Technician at one of our Stoney Creek locations. 

Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the Laboratory Technician is responsible for durability testing and reporting and film build analysis on sample and production parts to ensure customer specifications are met.  They will oversee the QA laboratory, ensuring all testing, measuring and inspecting equipment is calibrated and accurate, all quality documents are maintained, and up-to-date and adequate supplies are available.  In addition, they will assist Quality Auditors when required and at all times adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the ISO9001:2015 AND IATF 16949 Quality System and practice continuous improvement wherever possible.

details of Principal Duties, Activities and Responsibilities

  • Daily prepare and perform all durability testing on production and sample parts as specified by automotive requirements for all lines, recording and reporting results to QA Manager.
  • Daily perform film build analysis and record results on SPC charts; monitor SPC results and report any out-of-control situations to QA Manager, Production Manager and/or Foreman; monthly generate SPC trends and distribute accordingly; forward SPC data to customers as required.
  • Perform line trial testing, PPAP and life cycle testing as required.
  • Complete and review Lab Warrants and forward to QA Manager for approval; fax Lab Warrant to customers as required; generate or update Lab Warrant upon receipt of new program or change in blueprint or quality specification
  • Ensure all testing, measuring and inspecting equipment is cleaned and calibrated or verified and suitable for use as per the schedule outlined in the Lab Operations Manual; maintain equipment log, updating when equipment is calibrated, repaired or added, ensuring the correct documentation is received.
  • Conduct Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility studies as outlined in ISO9001:2015 AND IATF 16949 Quality System.
  • Monthly generate SPC trends and distribute accordingly; forward SPC data to customers as required.
  • Implement, maintain and update a file system in the QA Laboratory for all quality documents, ensuring documents are filed on a timely basis, only the most current versions of documents are in use and old documents are removed and retained as per the TS Quality System procedures.
  • Ensure blueprints and specifications are up-to-date, notifying the appropriate personnel of any changes, distributing copies of the most current version, and updating the blueprint and specification logs and filing.
  • Review and approve quality specifications during Contract Review as outlined in TS Quality System.
  • Annually or at the start of each model year, inform customers of quality specifications and blueprints currently in use for their program(s).
  • Calculate the quantity of dirt and fiber from buffing and sanding production logs and supplying data to the customer/supplier Liaison for analysis.
  • Ensure adequate laboratory supplies are available to perform the work required; ensure a safe working environment is maintained and safe work practices followed in the QA Lab.
  • Assist Quality Auditors to perform their functions when required
  • Comply with all Company health and safety regulations, reporting any known or potential hazards, and ensuring a safe environment at all times.
  • In conjunction with other departments, participate in identifying and analyzing non-conformance's or paint application / production / quality problems; and developing, implementing and verifying corrective action.
  • Practice and promote continuous improvement in all areas of Quality and production.
  • Review and approve quality specifications during Contract Review as outlined in
  • TS Quality System.
  • Adhere to ISO9001:2015 AND IATF 16949 Quality System policies and procedures at all times, updating procedures and work instructions for the QA Lab as required.
  • Advise QA Manager of any concerns relating to quality of finished product.
