Tiercon is an automotive supplier committed to the manufacture of quality exterior and interior trim and bumper systems used as original equipment in the automotive markets. Headquartered in Stoney Creek, the plants have moulding, painting and assembly capability, employing approximately 650 people throughout 5 Canadian facilities, and 1 US facility. Tiercon is seeking a knowledgeable, self directed, experienced and hard working individual interested in the automotive industry as a Lab Technician at one of our Stoney Creek locations. 

Summary of Position:

  • Reports to the Quality Manager or designated;
  • Performs durability and performance tests, measure film builds on production samples on a daily basis to ensure customer specifications are met;
  • Assists Quality Auditors when required;
  • Performs PPAP tests as required;
  • Oversees the QA laboratory, ensuring all tests, measurement and inspection equipment are calibrated and accurate, maintains adequate supplies to execute tests;
  • Maintains quality documents/records up-to-date and adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the ISO9001:2015 AND IATF16949 Quality System.

Education Required: 2 years College in Quality / Manufacturing / Engineering related field or equivalent exp

Training Required: Root cause, Quality Basics, Gauge R&R, Control Plans, Process Auditing, 8D, Basic Blue Print Reading, X Bar/Trend Charts

Skills Required: Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, demonstrated understanding of lab equipment and testing techniques.

Equivalent Experience: 3 year automotive manufacturing laboratory experience or 5 years manufacturing laboratory ISO 9001 exp.

details of Principal Duties, Activities and Responsibilities

  • Daily preparation and execution of all durability and performance tests on production sample parts as specified by automotive requirements for all lines, recording and reporting results to the team;
  • Daily film build analysis and record results; monitor results and report any out-of-spec. situations to the Quality Manager;
  • Perform line trial testing, PPAP and life cycle testing as required;
  • Daily datapaq operation and result analysis ensuring the temperature of the ovens are according to the specification;
  • Complete and review part warrant analysis;
  • Ensure all testing, measuring and inspecting equipment is cleaned and calibrated or verified and suitable for use as per the schedule outlined in the Lab Manual; maintain equipment log, updating when equipment is calibrated, repaired or added, ensuring the correct documentation is received;
  • Maintain and update the file system in the QA Laboratory for all quality documents, ensuring documents are filed on a timely basis, only the most current versions of documents are in use and old documents are removed and retained as per the IATF Quality System procedures.
  • Review customers' quality specifications during Contract Review and recommend action to meet its requirements if necessary;
  • Ensure adequate laboratory supplies are available to perform the work required; ensure a safe working environment is maintained and safe work practices followed in the QA Lab.
  • Assist Quality Auditors to perform their functions when required;
  • Comply with all Company health and safety regulations, reporting any known or potential hazards, and ensuring a safe environment at all times.
  • In conjunction with other departments, participate in identifying and analyzing non-conformance's or paint application / production / quality problems; and developing, implementing and verifying corrective action.
  • Practice and promote continuous improvement in all areas of Quality and production.
  • Adhere to ISO9001:2015 AND IATF16949 Quality System policies and procedures at all times, updating procedures and work instructions for the QA Lab as required;
  • Advise Quality Manager of any concerns relating to quality of finished product.
  • Perform duties as assigned from time to time.
